Here's Your First Look at the New Sony Xperia

Sony smartphone fans, you’ve got something to look forward to (or not) this 2018: the new Sony Xperia XZ2 and the Xperia XZ2 Compact.

Sony offers two things on the latest additions to its Xperia lineup: a design that “looks unique, feels natural” and an “immersive entertainment experience.”

No official release date in the Philippines has been announced yet, but we’re foreseeing it will be anytime this month! While waiting for the new XZ2 and XZ2 Compact to arrive, here’s a first look at the latest Sony Xperia phones.

New Sony Xperia gets a design makeover

With the new Sony Xperia XZ2, Sony veers away from the typically angular and blocky Xperia models for a more comfy grip.

Smaller bezels, bigger screen

Compared to its older bro XZ1, the new Sony Xperia XZ2 got noticeably smaller top and bottom bezels, a bigger 5.7-inch screen, and an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Rumor has it that a new Sony Xperia phone with a bezel-less display is in the works. But for now, all we can do is wait.

Adding an elegant touch to the latest Sony Xperia handset is the curved front and rear 3D glass. A metal frame supports the unit, Gorilla Glass 5 protects it from sudden drops.

What? No headphone jack?!

Yes, Sony is letting go of the 3.5-mm headphone jack on the new Sony Xperia. Much like how Apple broke millions of hearts when it released the latest iPhone iterations without headphone jacks.

If you go for a smartphone that’s missing a headphone jack, you need to use Bluetooth headphones, an adaptor, or USB-C headphones (if you’re lucky to find one).

Cool Sony camera tech

What the latest Sony Xperia lacks in design, it more than makes up for it with cool tech for a uniquely immersive entertainment experience. Expect nothing less from a company that specializes in camera tech.

Full HD+ HDR display

Coupled with a large High Dynamic Range display, the new Sony Xperia XZ2 uses X-Reality, the same technology used in Sony Bravia TV. It adds clarity, contrast, and color to videos and images displayed on the screen.

Dynamic Vibration System for a multi-sensory experience

The XZ2 lets you feel what you see and hear when watching a video or listening to music with its Dynamic Vibration System.

Complementing this new Sony Xperia feature are the front-facing stereo speakers with S-Force Front Surround. According to Sony, these are the loudest Xperia speakers ever.

4K HDR movie recording

The latest Sony Xperia iteration allows filming videos like a pro in 4K HDR quality. The XZ2 is the first phone in the world to offer this feature.

You can take photos with the same 4K HDR quality, thanks to the new Sony Xperia phone’s Motion Eye technology on its front and rear cameras. This feature also supports shooting full-HD slo-mo videos at 960fps.

Finally, an Xperia with wireless charging

The new Sony Xperia XZ2 supports Qi wireless charging. You can charge it minus the messy wires using the wireless charging dock that comes with the handset. The XZ2 Compact doesn’t have this feature, though.

Deal or no deal?

Except for the missing headphone jack, Sony has set expectations really high with the launch of its latest Sony Xperia models. Will these new Sony Xperia phones deliver as expected? Let’s wait and see. Keep checking out our Sony products!
